In the occasion of World Wildlife Day on March 3, Chairperson of Qatar Museums (QM) H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani launched the #KeepQatarClean campaign to preserve and protect the country’s natural resources. The mission was initiated 20 months prior to the country hosting its FIFA World Cup 2022 inviting the residents and citizens to discover and clean up Qatar’s historical villages.
This was tweeted by Sheikha Al Mayassa on her social media account, adding that she will be sharing interesting facts about Qatar’s archaeological sites. Along with the tweet, she shared a 38 seconds long video clip of an Arabian Oryx struggling with plastic litter at Zikreet as she tweeted, “The Arabian Oryx is a national icon for Qatar. Over the years, Qatar has played a vital role in protecting & saving it from extinction. It’s sad to see how our plastic consumption affects our nature & where the plastic litter left at Zikreet goes.”
