The Indian schools received a special permission from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to re-open after summer vacation on September 9, 2018. The schools were also exempted from the ministry instructed one week break in April as the Indian schools’ academic year ends in March.
K C Abdul Latheef, President of Shantiniketan Indian School, and Dr Subhash Nair, Convener of Indian School Principals’ Forum, expressed gratitude and great appreciation to the ministry for understanding the concerns and for the timely decision that supports the Indian schools.
The decision has helped the parents who were worried to book air tickets as things were uncertain about the holidays. However, the special permission is applicable only for this year and all the Indian schools should follow the ministry’s calendar.
Earlier, the ministry had revoked the decision to reduce the upper age for KG admission limit by one year based on the request of Indian Schools and allowed Indian Schools to follow the existing practice.
