Paul Burrell has come back to extraordinary claims that Prince Charles left Princess Diana in hospital to meet Camilla Parker Bowles after Prince Harry’s birth.
The former royal butler suspected that Charles saw a new-born Harry in his cot, remarked ‘now I have an heir and a spare’ and left to meet Camilla at the theatre, leaving Diana in floods of tears.
Paul also repeated his claims that the Princess Of Wales predicted her own car crash death nine months before it happened and apparently wrote to tell him she believed Charles was planning an ‘accident’.
Burrell, speaking during his stint on I’m A Celebrity Australia on Sunday, told actress Kerry Armstrong: ‘She told me, on the night that Harry was born, Charles came to visit.
‘He wasn’t at the birth. Harry is lying into the cot, and he said “red hair, I suppose that’s a Spencer gene”.
‘She said “are you pleased, Charles?” He said “I’m delighted. I now have an heir and a spare”. She said “well, that’s an odd thing to say why are you dressed up in black tie?”.’
Paul continued: ‘He said “my work is done, isn’t it, now? I’m off to the theatre with Camilla”. She said “on the night that Harry was born, I cried myself to sleep, knowing my marriage was over”.’
Paul was Diana’s butler for 10 years between 1987 and 1997, when Diana unfortunately died in a car crash in Paris. He famously described himself as her ‘rock’.
Diana and Dodi Fayed were killed early on the morning of August 31, 1997 when a Mercedes driven by chauffeur Henri Paul crashed in the Pont D’Alma tunnel in Paris.
A French inquiry in 1999 blamed Mr Paul, concluding he had taken a cocktail of drink and drugs and was driving too fast.
Discussing her death, Burrell claimed: ‘She wrote me a letter. On her own stationary, in her own hand writing.
‘Her words were “these next few months, are the most difficult months of my life. I fear my husband is going to kill me. In an automobile accident. With head injuries. In order that he can remarry”.
‘Her words. Her writing. Her stationary. I said to her “you don’t really think that, do you?” then she said, “I don’t know, these thoughts get in my head. I get the voices and feelings and I write then to you at night”.
‘She leaves them on my desk so I can read her thoughts the next morning. That is spooky. She predicted her own death nine months before she died.’
Paul first revealed the note in 2003 in his book, A Royal Duty, in which he claimed the princess had handed it to him as an insurance policy.
He wrote that she told him she was going to date it and he should keep it, ‘just in case’. It was written two months after her 1996 divorce from Charles.
The father-of-two added of his relationship with Diana: ‘We had a very needy relationship. She needed me to be there, and I needed to be there.’
It’s not the first reality show Paul has participated in since Diana’s tragic death, prompting accusations that he’s been cashing in on his links to her.
He also was a judge on Australian Princess, competed in the UK version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here and made an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother.
