A mother has died while swimming with her son in a heart-breaking accident at a central Queensland beach.
Queensland Police are investigating the drowning after emergency services were called to the boat ramp at Emu Park about 4.50pm on Tuesday.
The 46-year-old woman and her son, aged under 10, had gotten into trouble in the water, and required urgent rescuing.
The mother and son were pulled from the water and rescuers began performing CPR in a frantic attempt to resuscitate her.
Unfortunately, their attempts were unsuccessful, and the woman was unable to be revived.
She was declared dead at the scene.
The boy was taken to Yeppoon Hospital as a precaution, according to Queensland Police.
A report is to be prepared for the Coroner.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Lieutenant Darryl Purdie told the Brisbane Times rescuers did a ‘great job’ trying to save the woman.
‘On our arrival a backpacker was attending to the young child and some beach walkers had assisted in retrieval of the people from the water,’ he said.
