Qatar’s permanent representative to the UN HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani highlighted that Doha Regional Dialogue on Sustaining Peace has come as part of the country’s efforts to support the president of UN General Assembly in his endeavour to nurture the process of peace building and sustainability across the world and especially the region.
Sheikha Alia recollected that the Qatari delegation to the UN had held deliberations with some of the active entities on the possibility of establishing a regional dialogue for sustainable peace. An agreement has been reached on the importance of such an initiative.
Considering the regional dialogue as an opportunity to improve local efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace through the participation of the global community, Sheikha Alia said such efforts could go a long way in promoting open dialogues between affected parties and civil society organisations at different levels.
She also appreciated the efforts of non-governmental organisations and said that they were playing a key role to ensure that the needs and requirements of women and the interests of young people are properly addressed.
Sheikha Alia reiterated Qatar’s long-term interest in building and sustaining peace by looking at the root causes and supporting mediation efforts to achieve it.
She was confident that country’s latest efforts made it clear that it has been working for peace, safety, development, and above all human rights.
