The Department of Telecom (DoT) of India has exempted NRIs/PIOs/OCIs from producing Aadhar card as e-KYC for verification of mobile connections being used by them, said a press release by the Indian Embassy.

The DoT has, instead, suggested an alternative method for the following categories:
• Subscribers of foreign nationality and not having Aadhaar;
• NRI subscribers not having Aadhaar or his/her Aadhaar does not have mobile number registered with UIDAI.

“From January 1, 2018, the above mentioned category of subscribers shall be able to re-verify their mobile connections by using the alternative methods. The procedure for the verification and scanned copy of the format(s), as applicable is available on Embassy’s FB and Twitter accounts”, the release added.

This will relieve large number of overseas Indians as they were finding it difficult to operate mobile connections due to Aadhar based KYC requirements.
