The Saudi imams of the Grand Mosques in Makkah and Madinah kept mum on the controversial Jerusalem issue during Friday sermons.
Although he did point out that the Kingdom “reiterated the legal rights of the blessed Palestinian people” and hailed King Salman and other Muslim leaders for seeking the best for Islam and Muslims, well-known Shaikh Maher Mu’eqili escaped from speaking on the issue of Jerusalem.
Shaikh Abdullah Al-Bu’ejan, who delivered the Friday speech in The Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, did not mention the issue at all.
It should be noted that the media outlets in the Kingdom were ordered not to focus too much on Jerusalem. The Saudi and Bahraini embassies in Amman urged their citizens in Jordan to stay away from the demonstrations organised to protest against the US move.
While the international community has rejected Trump’s decision to move US embassy to Jerusalem and recognise the city as the capital of Israel, some reports suggest that Trump had received green signal from the likes of Saudi Arabia and Egypt before announcing his decision.
