Qatar Rail has invited applications for registrations of commercial spaces at Doha Metro Stations. A total of 9200 sq m of retail space is available across 37 stations, these outlets are considered the first of its kind in Qatar since it provides business access to railway commuters and neighbourhood customers.
The registration has opened for retail spaces available at the Red Line stations from Al Wakrah to Al Qassar (13 stations), comprising 86 retail units. Additionally, the stations will also have dedicated spaces for 46 ATMs and 27 vending machines to serve Metro users.
Eng. Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, Qatar Rail’s MD & CEO, commented: “The Doha Metro project is a comprehensive development project and will change the transport landscape in Qatar. Metro stations will not only attract commuters but also residents of surrounding areas, This initiative comes as a part of our strategies to further enhance transit ridership, non-fare revenue, support small and medium enterprises and induce economic growth.”
He added: “We are opening the registration process for retail units available at Doha Metro Red line stations. After the registration is concluded, all applications will go through a comprehensive review and selection will be made based on experience and proposed business plan. Other factors that will be taken in consideration include store concept and the nature of the activity as we aim to achieve diversity and integration between the various retail outlets to better service our customers and metro commuters.”
The transit stations offer constant significant foot fall and thus are premium locations for retail outlets. Stations will offer four main types of retail including Services, Food and Beverage, Convenience Stores and General Retail.
The online registration was opened yesterday and will end on November 30, 2017. Application for the retail spaces can be submitted in a few easy steps via Qatar Rail’s online retail portal at retail.qr.com.qa
