The Qatari government opened a new military office in Washington to showcase its close ties with the US. The defense ministry of Qatar inaugurated the military office in the Georgetown neighbourhood, a few blocks away from Qatar’s embassy. Military officials from the US and other countries were present during the occasion.
Staff Brig. Gen. Yousef al-Kuwari is the Qatari defense attaché. He says six officers and one non-commissioned officer will be posted to the office, representing Qatar’s army, navy, air force and special forces.
This is a positive step for Qatar which is looking to strengthen its ties with the US. Meanwhile, US is facing a tricky situation as it finds itself sandwiched between Qatar and its neighbours, who accuse Qatar of supporting terrorism, a claim denied by Doha.
