She always felt that she looks ugly. She hated her nose and spent her entire life being ridiculed for it. Bullies would call her “Pinocchio” and “Ski Slope.”
Cynthia Stanley always joked that if she won the lottery, she would be getting a nose job. But, her husband John and three children little did they know that she was serious.
“I don’t care what we do, but Mama’s going to get a new nose,” Cynthia told Houma Today in 2009.
In 2008, when she heard about The Doctors, she wrote to the show detailing why she felt so lonely and isolated because of her appearance. The Doctors panel agreed to have her on, her family had mixed feelings. The family matriarch felt she was beautiful as she was.
“First, I was a little bit perplexed,” John said. “I said, ‘Why do you want all this?’ Her nose didn’t bother me, but it bothered her. She’s been fighting that nose for 48 years.”
But when her husband saw how excited she was, he couldn’t help but be excited for her. Finally, the family decided to be with her on her journey.
On the show, she received a full body makeover that included a nose job, dental surgery, a face lift, breast augmentation, Botox, and hair extensions.
When the transformation was complete, Cynthia got to see herself for the first time, and she was brought to tears.
“I thank God and them every day for it because I would have never had this done on my own,” she said.
Her husband noticed that she is more confident and secure in her appearance. Although he loves Cynthia before and after, he has always loved her exactly the same: unconditionally.
“To me, she’s always going to be the little girl I married,” John said. “She didn’t change in my eyes. She’s the same.”
