Germany’s national airline Lufthansa has decided to stop its services to Doha due to financial reasons. Luftansa’s last trip to Doha will be on October 27, 2017.
The move is not a good news for Qataris as it leaves them with fewer options while flying to long-haul destinations in the US and South America and also connecting to other European countries.
The airline said that the route was not viable financially. “Despite substantial sales efforts, this route was found to be commercially not viable,” the airline said.
The airline informed that passengers who have booked tickets after October 27 will be contacted directly and offered re-booking or refunds.
Earlier, Dutch airline KLM had also stopped its services to Qatar.
At the time, the airline said that its Amsterdam-Doha route had “proven unprofitable” due to competition from Qatar Airways.
This leaves Qatar Airways with very little competition on flights to these destinations.
However, the passenger who were planning on these destinations might have to travel quite a bit as the suspension of flights by Etihad, Emirates and Gulf Air due to blockade will eliminate the option of boarding a connecting flight through Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Bahrain.
