The newly completed and redeveloped Ali Bin Abi Talib Abi Talib Street in New Slata and the signal-controlled intersection in place of the old TV Roundabout was officially opened to public by Ashghal on Tuesday.
The opening was held in the presence of Brigadier Mohamed Abdul Rahim Marafia, director of Engineering and Traffic Safety Department at the General Directorate of Traffic, and Senior Engineer Jamal Mattar al-Nuaimi, director of Doha Municipality and Abdullah bin Saeed al-Sulaiti, member of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) for the 7th Constituency.
Ashghal senior engineer and road projects manager Saoud Ali al-Tamimi said that the authority was committed to open more projects ahead of Eid al-Adha. The season has also seen the opening of Messila Tunnel and the expanded Jasim Bin Hamad Street. The openings included the Old Traffic Roundabout which was converted to signal-controlled intersection. Two road tunnels at Pearl Interchange will be opened on Wednesday.
Brigadier Marafia noted that the openings would contribute to ease traffic woes. Converting the TV and Sport roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections and the development of Ali Bin Abi Talib Street and opening the two tunnels at the Pearl Interchange would help traffic move smoothly especially in peak hours and during school days.
Al-Nuaimi said the opening of the Ali Bin Abi Talib Street and its intersections would improve traffic, especially with the presence of a large number of schools in the area.
“Ali Bin Abi Talib Street has significance as it links the C-Ring Road and D-Ring Road and is also considered as the second artery road connecting Doha and the western regions like Al Rayyan Municipality and it would reduce the traffic burden on Salwa Road and other main streets”.
