Sabera Begum, a Hyderabadi woman is experiencing a nightmare in Abu Dhabi as her husband, a UAE national has divorced her, he even took her passport and now she is not able to get back to India.
Her brother back home is doing everything possible to get his sister back from Abu Dhabi. The general administration (NRI) department of Telangana has written a letter to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi to facilitate Sabera Begum get an Indian passport to come back to the country.
The letter was sent on July 13, 2017 to the Secretary, Ministry of External and Overseas Indian Affairs also with a copy to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Sabera got married to Abdul Aziz Rasheed Khalifa Mohammed Al Balochi in 1983 and travelled to Abu Dhabi after the marriage. She has six daughters and two sons.
Balochi got her UAE citizenship and a UAE passport in 2006, but, in 2011 he divorced her and also got her passport cancelled and because of this she is unable to travel to India. In order to return to India, she applied for renewal of her Indian passport in the Indian Embassy in UAE in 2012.
As the Ministry of Home Affairs quoted some rules, Sabera Begum’s brother Peer Mohammed once again applied for her passport on July 4, 2017.
Speaking about this unique case, MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan asked Union external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to intervene in her case. “She is greatly suffering mentally because of her problem and has also developed a mental illness. She desires to return home,” he said seeking the minister’s help in getting her back to India.
