2022 World Cup plans not affected by unjust blockade: Thawadi

Doha The ongoing Gulf crisis has had little impact on the preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Secretary-General Hassan al Thawadi has said.

In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, Thawadi said various construction projects, including eight stadiums and a $35 billion metro and rail system, are”on schedule”.

“No doubt that the blockade has caused an inconvenience,” Thawadi said, noting that Qatar could not work with some GCC companies that were contracted as suppliers or service providers.”We have very quickly moved onto Plan B, found alternative sources of supply — alternative routes of supply as well,” he said.
