Two US who flew to the region in a bid to find a solution to the crisis want to shift the focus away from the 13 demands of Saudi-led bloc to Qatar.

General Anthony Zinni, a retired former head of US Central Command, and senior State Department official Timothy Lenderking will be promoting a solution which is based on a road map proposed by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Tillerson had presented a road map during his visit to the region which included laying the grounds for direct negotiations based on an accord that resolved an earlier dispute between the Gulf nations.

The two envoys met with the Kuwaiti emir and will now embark on a tour to visit the leaders of blockading countries, before visiting Qatar.

The crisis has brought two US allies against each other over a power struggle in the region. While Saudi Arabia has strong counter-terrorism ties with the US, Qatar hosts the regional headquarters for US Central Command.

The four Arab states severed ties with Qatar after accusing it of supporting terrorism, which was denied by Qatar.
