The Ministry of Economy and Commerce said that 7 violations were identified during the inspection campaigns on shops located in different malls across Qatar, the violations included non-display in Arabic and non-compliance with the licenses of offers and discounts.
The license of three shops were also suspended by the ministry for the violations of law. It was a surprise raid targeted at retail outlets across various malls in an attempt to monitor the compliance of suppliers (retail outlets) with their obligations under law No. 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection and ministerial decision No. 5 of 1984 on discounted sale.
It was stressed that the retail outlet owners should ensure and adopt without any delay the “Shop with Confidence” mark when it comes to announcing discounts and promotional offers. The marks should be present on the invoices given to the customers.
The owners who have obtained a license should offer real promotions and refrain from fake and misleading discounts and practices that harm consumers.
No violations will be tolerated by the ministry which will be intensifying the campaign in the coming days. The violations will be referred to the ministerial decrees for further actions.
Customers are urged to ask for a detailed invoice with the actual and discounted price.
