British Woman Attacked By A Taxi Driver From Whom She Took Lift

A mother-of-four holiday has been turned into a nightmare after she was stripped and dragged down a road in a horrific sex attack.

Anne, the victim, 45, revealed that she was attacked after accepting a lift from a ‘taxi driver’ on a motorbike. The taxi driver offered to take her back to her 4-star hotel, Club Aida, at the Turkish resort of Marmaris.

She acted bravely and came forward to speak about the incident in order to warn other Brits travelling to the resort.

She told Mirror Online that she was a week into her relaxing fortnight of sun with her husband and youngest daughter when she went out to the Red Devils Of Manchester Bar.

In the bar she had met up with some friends from the UK for a drink, but when she lost her pal she decided to make her way back to the hotel alone.

While going back to the hotel she accepted a lift from a passing motorcyclist. That lift had turned Anne’s happy holiday into horror. The driver knowingly past the turning back to her hotel, and stopped instead at the end of a cul-de-sac enclosed by forest.

She told the Mirror: ‘It was then that things got violent. I don’t know how he did it – maybe he had a knife or another weapon – but he managed to rip my denim shorts and knickers from my body without even getting me on the ground.

‘We were fighting and suddenly they were off – completely ripped in two. He was smaller than me but so strong. Then he pushed me to the ground and kept trying to get hold of my legs but I was punching and kicking as much as I could.

‘I’m a big girl, about 14 stone, and I think that’s what saved my life. He couldn’t get hold of me. He tried to pick me up and couldn’t so went back to trying to grab my legs.

Horror ride hitch: The victim, known only as Anne, 45, had accepted a ride from a ‘taxi driver’ on a motorbike when he offered to take her back to her 4-star hotel, Club Aida (pictured)

‘We were fighting like this when I suddenly saw headlights coming up the road. I knew if I went into the forest, I was never going to come out, so I lashed out at him with everything I had and threw myself back into the road.’

The victim revealed that when the car arrived the accused fled the scene and she was given a lift back to her hotel by the kind passersby.

The Foreign Office’s travel advice for Turkey mentions that tourists need to be ‘vigilant’ because of various sexual assaults during the summer holiday period at coastal resorts in in recent years.

The authorities also warned the holidaymakers not to accept lifts from strangers.

The advice says: ‘In 2015, 18 cases of sexual assault, including rape, were reported to British consular staff in Turkey.

‘Most of these cases occurred during the summer holiday period in coastal tourist areas. Many were committed late at night by someone the victim met during the evening.

‘Never accept lifts from strangers. Find a registered yellow taxi and make a note of the registration number before getting in.’

Anne said she wants police to get involved and that she is unhappy with the way her holiday representatives, Thomson holidays, dealt with the incident.

A Thomson spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We were really concerned to hear about this reported incident. Our resort team encouraged the couple to make a police report at the time but had to respect their decision not to do so.

‘We also offered additional support while they were on holiday and this remained available to them, and still is, now that they have returned home.

‘We would like to encourage them to contact us directly if they would like to discuss the matter further or if there is anything else we can do to help.’

The recent incident came into news just a few weeks after a British student was raped in Sicily after getting into a vehicle she believed was a taxi when she was separated from her friends.

The 21-year-old was found in a confused state by a motorway fly-over near the city of Palermo on the Italian island after a night out.

She told police she had flagged down a white car having been separated from her British friends, but was then driven to an industrial estate and attacked.
