Expat drowned in the sea while celebrating Eid Holiday with Friends near Khol al Udeid

An Indian expat drowned in the sea near Khol al Udeid on Thursday, the man was with a picnic group. The man has been identified as Thomas John, 45. John was employed with the Qatar Engineering and Construction Company (Qecon).

The accident occurred at 2:30 in the morning about 75km south of Sealine beach, Mesaieed. John reportedly fell into a whirlpool, he was successfully pulled out of the water, however, he succumbed on his way to the hospital.

At least 3 other people were caught in the whirlpool, but they were luckily rescued. First aid was administered to all, but unfortunately John could not be revived. Thomas is survived by his wife Elizabeth Thomas, a daughter Joan Maria and a son named Steve Thomas who is based in Kochi, Kerala in India.

Due to Eid holidays the beach was exceptionally crowded with picnicking visitors.

Till arrangements are made for the transportation of John’s mortal remains to his native Kuzhikkala, his body has been at Hamad Hospital’s mortuary in al-Wakra.

Thomas had been in Qatar since 1996 and attended the Emmanuel Marthoma Church, Doha.
