Terrorism has become a menace in today’s times. You wake up one morning and find your newsfeed flooded with news of terrorist attacks.
The terror attacks claim many innocent lives for no apparent reason. But amidst this, there are many heroes who risk their lives for others, thus becoming a legend.
In the recent Dhaka attacks, there emerged one more hero: Faraaz Hossain. He was just 20-years-old, but the magnitude of his bravery will stun even the old ones.
When the terrorists opened unprecedented attacks in Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka on July 1, little did anyone know the fate that awaited them.
On Friday evening when terrorist attacks occurred, Faraaz had accompanied his friends Tarishi Jain and Abinta Kabir to Holey Artisan restaurant.
All three of them were waiting for their fourth friend to join them.
When the terrorists entered the restaurant and fired at people recklessly, people got scared. Apparently, Faraaz was allowed to leave because he was a Bangladeshi Muslim and could recite the Quran with finesse.
Now seeing the barbarity of the attacks, anyone would have fled the scene before thinking twice.
But, not Faraaz. Instead, he chose to stay with his friends and share their fate.
Faraaz’s brother, Zaraif, gave some insights and said the following:
From what I have gathered, my brother was allowed to leave. But he had gone there with his friends and didn’t want to leave them behind. So he had asked ‘what about them?’ When he was told that they couldn’t leave, he decided to stay back.
Muslims are not supposed to believe in violence. He was a true Muslim which is why he stayed back and proved to be one.
Sadly, Faraaz lost his life along with his two other friends.
Faraaz was a student at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School in Atlanta and he had come to Bangladesh for his summer holidays. He was going to leave for the USA at August-end.
As a person, he was a wonderful human being. He always ensured others’ well-being and didn’t hurt anyone.
HE WAS “EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TOWARDS OTHERS” AND ALWAYS “CAREFUL” ABOUT HOW HIS ACTIONS WOULD AFFECT THOSE AROUND HIM. “HE WOULD GO THE EXTRA MILE TO ENSURE THAT EVERYBODY WAS HAPPY”.
Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain died a hero.
While the nation is recuperating from the loss of the innocent lives, people like Faraaz are a ray of hope.
May his soul rest in peace!
