A Public Prosecution employee has been arrested for disclosing confidential information on social media about a case that is still sub judice.
The detention of the employee was carried out under the orders of Attorney General Dr. Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri, who heads the prosecutor’s office that is responsible for managing judicial affairs in Qatar.
The erring employee had filmed a document pertaining a case that is still under trail and investigations. The employee then shared the document on social media thereby violating the confidentiality of a sub judice matter, Attorney General Dr. Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri said in a statement issued to QNA.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the crime, Attorney General Dr. Ali Bin Fetais Al Marri added that disclosing secrets entrusted to people in a workplace is a criminal offense under Qatar’s Penal Code.
Any employee found guilty of deliberately divulging secrets pertaining to matters of workplace without any proper authorization is liable for the act and may be sentenced to up to 2 years in prison and/or be required to pay a fine of a maximum of QR10, 000, according to the Article 332 of Qatar’s Penal Code.
