Qatar 2022 comes one more step closer

The installation of the emblematic arch has been completed at the Khalifa International Stadium. The renovation and upgrade works are expected to be completed very soon. The stadium has been earmarked as the venue for the 2022 FIFA World Cup that Qatar is hosting. The stadium will host leagues games through to the quarter finals.

The arch was completed with the installation of 22-metre piece at the height of 120 metres. The installation was a very technical job but was handled expertly by the crew involved. The piece was titled to a required angle using a small crane at the ground level before it was lifted up. Compression rings at the bottom and the top and column segments too were pre-assembled before the piece was lifted up.

Speaking to media Mansoor Al Muhannadi, the project manager of Aspire Zone Foundation at the Khalifa International Stadium said, “The successful completion of the installation of the arch shows that the team is working round the clock to renovate the stadium well within the specified deadline.” Elaborating on the next steps, he said, the team would now start installing the roof. Mr. Muhannadi thanked all the parties involved in the renovation work for their tireless efforts.

The completion of the emblematic arch would now allow works to undertake the process of installing the roof membrane, Mohemed Elamin Ahmed, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) project manager for Khalifa International Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor City noted.

It is noteworthy that the materials used in the renovation work are all locally sourced from the Eversendai factories located in Qatar and in the UAE. The materials used in the arch were delivered to the site by 19-meter trailers due to their enormous size and weight.
